Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome

ITB Friction Syndrome is another injury that commonly thwarts runners. Due primarily to weak gluteus medius, this syndrome presents with tenderness on the outside of the knee, especially 2-5 cm above the outside of the knee.

Massage therapy is used to decrease the tone of the glutes, quadriceps and hamstrings, to decrease fascial adhesions between the IT-band and the quads/hamstrings, and to provide patients with continued homecare that is effective in reducing the symptoms of the condition.
